That's the beauty about Catfishing mreeves.....very economical.  There are many accessible places around the State where you can have a positive experience with the kids.  I'd stick to the river's if you are looking for as much action as possible.  Anywhere on the Yellowstone River east of Billings to the MT/ND border is always a solid choice.  Milk River East of Saco to the mouth (Nashua) is a great Channel Cat river.  Missouri River, Fred Robinson bridge area (north of bohemian corner) is dynamite at many points throughout the year.  All of these rivers have great shore access and boat is not necessary.

Ft. Peck and Nelson(both former state record locations) do have Channel Cats in them, however, targeting them and catching large numbers can be very difficult.  The best location on the lake is Crooked Creak area in the spring, after that they get pretty dispersed.
