Anyone have any input on brands of fish finders? I've used Eagle and Lowrance but that's where my experience ends. Pro or cons about any of the
brands...anything someone has heard?? Any recommendations??

well I no a couple ppl use those hummingbird electronics and I know they're super expensive but I guess they're worth it. I guess if you mark a fish
with it, you are more than likely gonna catch it, but there a lot of money. Lowrance makes some good electronics. I'm not sure the exact modle we have in
our big boat but its pretty nice, I don't have much experience with much else but I would think you could find what you are looking for in a lowrance. They
make one for about every type of fishing and some are pretty affordable.

For what my input is worth. I also heard humminmgbird was coming out with real good stuff nowdays. But pretty spendy. I looked really hard at the side imaging
models my funds would have bought me the smaller screen model not the bigger and from what I read that was the only complaint. And if ya really wanted one wait
untill ya could afford the bigger screen. Well I could not wait and got a Lowrance 27C. I like it. It does have a bigger screen and it was color. After getting
a new ducer it runs well. The first ducer would just read like 2 ft ALOT of the time. Got a new one and all is good. It picks up jigs well. Which is kinda
nice you can use it like a vexilar. Pretty neat. If I remember right it was still cheaper than the smaller side imaging model.

Lowrance and humming bird both make the best, most guys east of here have changed over to humming bird, thats how I picked up mine so cheap. I heard Todd or
Ken might have one still for sale, give me a call if you want me to check into it. last years model with gps & colot, think he wanted 500 or 6 for it. new
about 850+. might be too much. I've looked into getting another for walleye fishing, humming bird have some cheaper ones with gps, color and seem to be
priced reasonable for the unit with a smaller screen. Just like anything depends on how much you want to spend. Go with gps at least, help in all aspects of
fishing from lakes to rivers.

I'll second that definatly get the gps model. And if ya want to buy a map card for it I bought the year old version. It was much cheaper and none of the
lakes or river changed in ND or MT. so know sense in paying double for the new version if it does ya no good. That was two yrs ago and I dont think any other
lakes have been updated since. But I could be wrong?

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm looking for a cheaper unit for the time being. I can't afford anything too much and I'd hate to have a depth finder
that's worth more than my little boat.

I have a Lowrance LMS-334 on my boat. Its the smallest color combo graph/GPS Lowrance makes. Newest model has a different number its a 5something...
Anyway... if you want speed, you want GPS, most speed wheels are very inaccurate. And you definitely want color, no question about that. Lowrance has really been struggling lately with product/software reliability. My 334 has been a gem, that has definitely not been the case with the newer units however. What these guys are saying about Humminbirds is right on track. Its about 50/50 so far with pros I've fished with on the FLW Tour. I've always been a Lowrance guy so I'm really scrutinizing the Humminbirds when I'm in a boat that has them in it. All I can say is they are nice! I would take a very hard look at them, especially if you want to go with the SI feature. Last pro's boat I was in had an 1197 & a 997 on the dash, with another 997 on the bow. We're talking $5,000 plus in electronics. Everything was networked together, his downriggers were networked into the electronics, it was really incredible. The SI was sweet! It'll show you small rockpiles off to the sides of the boat that a regular transducer won't show you it, or even if it does show you, most folks won't pick up on it. Overkill for what you're looking for but very, very nice!! I haven't had a chance to see the "new" Lowrance HDS units on the water yet. I know you can see them from 20-30' away as lots of pros use them and you can read them plain as day when you are in the next boat over but I have no real feedback there. Smallest one may be worth a look however. |
