2009 Spring Bear |

Well I made a mistake this spring that is going to haunt me until I kill my first bear. We found a nice bear on Sunday morning. He was moving across an
avalanche slide. We climbed up the mountain but was unable to find him in the thick brush. After going back down...I range finded the opening he came
across...I had a 250 yard shot and didn't realize it! Ugh. Those steep mountain sides are deceiving. I figured he was over twice that distance. It was
a fun weekend anyway...gotta love hunting the mountains. We saw elk, moose, a mountain lion, and I called in a wolverine. Anyone know the regs on shooting
wolverines?? I feel pretty confident about getting a bear next year...this area we saw the bear was perfect.

No doubt it does sound like a sweet time. Did the wolverine get listed for protection this last year??? I remember some storey like this in the paper not to
long ago. And have no idea what become off it. From what I know about wolverines you are very fortunate to see one. Congrats that would have been very COOL!

I found the story I read in the Billings paper last fall. It looks like enviro groups were just pushing to put them on the endangered list. Along with others.

Spotty...I had heard the same thing. What I read on the fish and game website sounds like the population is okay and that they're pretty adaptable
animals...even living near humans. Environmental groups probably think they need to be protected because they just don't see them much.
So I suppose you have to purchase a trappers license to shoot one and then you can only shoot them during Dec 1 to Feb 15?? Sounds like a pretty unique animal...I'd like a tanned pelt of one...might have to try and call one in and shoot one during the season. Steve...we got more of the "oh sh!t" feeling because when we first saw it...we thought it was a grizzly bear cub. |

I'd like to know how they come up with their numbers. Some factual evidence to support something like this would be nice.

doesn't the crazy mountains have the highest # in the lower us? thats what I heard a few years back, a friend of mine finally trapped one in 07 I believe.
I have only seen on in the wild, man can they move out fast.
Just got some word on were to go spring bear next year, buddy of mine seen 29 this year. He wants a brown color phased, and had one at 100yrds after a 2hr stock. Mountain was so steep he laid down to take the shot, well right as he went to squeeze one off, he started to slide down the mountain. Needless to say the gun went off, "finger on the trigger" and he missed. This guy is sick about it, loves to hunt bears, has a life sized, and one rug. |

Hardrocker wrote:That's funny. Animal rights people conduct research by driving roads and counting what they see. If they don't see any, they must be near extinct. Sounds logical...I mean how many wolverines have all of us seen while driving around?? |
